With the present recession, times are tough for many people. Some experts even say it’s the worst it’s been since the Great Depression. In these tough economic times, we all want to know how to earn more money. Anything to supplement your salary, put a little money away for a vacation, or pay down those outrageous credit card debts.

Start by going on the web and searching “how to earn more money.” There are many how-to guides out there, but beware of the ones that charge a fee. Chances are that they’ll just be giving you the same advice you could get from any free guide out there. Remember, your goal is to learn how to earn more money, not how to spend money you don’t even have!

Some money making ideas I found were pretty straightforward: Have a yard sale to get rid of your old CDs, clothes, shoes, etc. In these tough economic times, people are much more willing to buy secondhand instead of buying something new. By doing this you get to earn more money while your buyers to save a couple of bucks.

If you’re not into yard sales or flea markets, then you could try EBay. They wrote the book on how to earn more money, and are a multi-billion dollar company as a result. That old coat of yours could get you a few bucks if you sell it on eBay, as could that old DVD player. Maybe it’s time to sell that old collection of baseball cards. You can potentially turn whatever you’ve got hidden away in your basement or attic into cash.

Another step in figuring out how to earn more money is finding out what you’re really motivated to do. Are you willing to take your Saturday and Sunday mornings and turn them into profit? If so, then you could start a local lawn service. Offer to mow lawns, trim hedges, rake leaves, shovel snow - whatever fits you the best. There’s nothing wrong with some manual labor, especially if it’s the difference between being able to pay rent that month and not. It could also be the difference between keeping a good credit score, which is an issue that’s becoming more of a concern as banks put the squeeze on more people.

One of the great ways to pick up some extra cash if you’ve got a truck is to perform “Man with a van” services. How to earn more money with this? You’ll see this advertised on Craigslist all the time, especially in big cities where few people have cars, and professional moving services that tend to price gouge. Charge whatever you think is realistic and always be courteous and diligent. Once you’ve built up a reputation as a hard worker, you’d be surprised at how much money word-of-mouth can bring in for you.

If you’re not the “man-with-a-van” type, you could consider starting a garden and selling your own home-grown fruits and vegetables. You could also start a car wash or become a dog-walker if you want to know how to earn more money. All of these personal services are in high demand, and finding the one that suits you best shouldn’t be too difficult. Love dogs and exercising? Advertise your services. Grow the best carrots and squash in the neighborhood? Set up a stand and earn a couple of extra bucks.

If you want to find out how to earn more money you could also do internet marketing. You can promote products and/or services for companies online and make a percentage of the sales. If you are internet savvy, this may be right for you.

The opportunities are out there. Just make sure you take some time to find them!

Affiliate Marketing Programs

If you’ve spent any time on the internet in the last few years, you’ve almost certainly heard about affiliate marketing programs. It’s a pretty simple concept that has a lot of attractiveness for a prospective online marketer since there’s little or no cost at the beginning of the process, and if the marketing efforts are not successful, the marketer won’t have to pay. But are the tales of making a lot of money from affiliate marketing programs true, or is this just another Internet bubble ready to burst? Let’s take a look at exactly how the process works.

Affiliate marketing is a method of revenue sharing that works exclusively on the ‘net. At its base, it involves paying a certain percentage to people who refer your product or service to the people who buy it. The URL that is provided to the web browser contains a unique affiliate ID, and clicks that lead to sales using that ID are tallied and credited to the affiliate. The concept originated with adult websites in the early 90s, and it wasn’t long until mainstream online retailers were using it as well. Most affiliate marketing programs depend on a large number of affiliates to drive traffic and sales.

The great majority of affiliate marketing programs pay on a “cost per sale”, or CPS, basis – if the web surfer makes a purchase through an affiliate link, the affiliate gets paid. A smaller number of affiliate marketing programs use CPC, or “cost per click” – each clickthrough on an affiliate link pays a (typically much smaller) amount. Due to fraud and other issues, programs using CPC are on the decline. Additionally, many of these programs offer payment options either in cash or credit for the program owner’s business, keeping more of the money in their pockets.

If you are interested in creating an affiliate marketing program for your products and/or services, there are a few important business concerns to address. Foremost, you should ensure that you occupy a niche that can support this kind of venture – competing with an existing program for the same type of product is essentially a fool’s gambit, as their market penetration will make it very tough for you to build a large enough team of affiliates without offering more competitive financial terms. In addition, the administrative component of an affiliate marketing program can become quite overwhelming as the program grows – you will be making payments to hundreds, or even thousands, of individuals, and if they make over $400 you will be required to submit a 1099 form to the IRS for them as well.

Fortunately, there are some excellent affiliate networks that will help you out with this. If you offer a downloadable product, check out Clickbank. Commission Junction is one of the top networks for companies that sell physical products.

Affiliate marketing programs can be a powerful tool for a small business that has some internet savvy, but they’re not a short road to fortune. Be aware of their strengths and weaknesses before you invest the time and money it takes to develop one.
